THE NEW EP HAS BEEN RELEASED!!!!
THE NEW DOUBLE SINGLE HAS BEEN RELEASED!!!!
Robb Benson, Cassady Laton and Gwon Chang Have been making music with many bands in Seattle for years. They made an experimental demo EP while social distancing during the pandemic. Not really intended to be more than a fun way to stay creative, Planets have recently been asked to play their first show this summer in JULY and have accepted the show! Soon after Chris Hill a student of Robert Lang Studios asked the band to record a song. This turned into two songs with instructor Kevin Younkins mixing and mastering the tracks. Both Splinter and Decisions will soon be released on the socials. The first single Splinter was featured in an exclusive write up with AMERICAN SONGWRITER! It's all happening very quickly and the excitement is building!
The show first show was set to be opening for Electric NoNo and The Hoot Hoots on July 23rd at the SUNSET tavern in Seattle WA! While the Hoot Hoots were forced to cancel we stepped into the middle slot and the show was opened by Shawn Crawford and he was awesome! Electric No No tore up the place as usual and I think Planets made a serious opening statement for our first show!
The show was a total blast! A great start out the gate!
It's hard to believe it has been over 20 years since I released my first album with the band Nevada Bachelors on PopLlama Records. Over 20 albums and 4 different record labels later it is time to start yet another new adventure! Drummer Cassady Laton (of Dear John Letters, Dept of Energy, Stereo Embers, yes we have played together a long time) along with bassist Gwon Chang (also of Stereo Embers) are building a new brand... the band, PLANETS IN THE OCEAN!
The first single Splinter quickly got a write up on AMERICAN SONGWRITER (thank you Jake Uitti) and its first bit of airplay on KBCS just two weeks after recording the song (Thank you Iaan Hughes)!!! Days later "Local with Louise" added the song to her playlist that aired on several stations on the west coast including KBFG 107.3FM in Seattle and was syndicated on KAVZ 102.5FM in Whatcom County, KPNW-DB in Bellingham, & KOSW 91.3FM in Ocean Shores. Eva Walker also added a spin to her KEXP weekend set recently as well! So that's seven west coast stations in the first few weeks, without having a radio campaign!
I joined The Touring Fan Live podcast, on YouTube and our new song "Decisions" was shared with an exclusive first listen video on The Touring Fan Live's Facebook page: Since then Decisions also has now received some airplay on KBCS 91.3, thanks again Iaan!
This is just the very start of our journey.
We hope that this is a sign of what's to come in the future! Yet this time things are different, no label as of yet, the band is doing this one step at a time DIY sharing with friends and pals along the way. We hope you will join us on the new PITO journey! -Robb Benson (guitar/vox)
